United States President Donald Trump said Saturday night that he instructed the US Air Force to strike three sites in Iran, officially joining the war that Israel started last Friday.
“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Saturday night. “All planes are now out of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow.”
Iranian state-run news agency IRNA confirmed the strikes, adding that the Fordo nuclear site deep underground near the city of Qom was targeted. It is Iran’s main uranium enrichment facility that has been Israel’s main target. Only the US has the proper weaponry to destroy it.
Iran’s Tasnim news agency, semi-controlled by the government, reported that air defenses in Qom province were activated.
Fox News anchor Sean Hannity said on his show that Trump informed him that six bunker buster bombs were used, adding that 30 Tomahawk missiles were fired by U.S. submarines.
Despite the reporting from Iranian outlets, the information has been vague, according to the Associated Press.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed his nation early Sunday local time thanking Trump for the strikes.
“President Trump, I thank you, the Israeli people thank you, and the civilized world thanks you,” he said.
