The Iranian military sent up to 100 kamikaze drones and fired dozens of ballistic missiles towards Israel in retaliation against Israel’s preemptive attack on Tehran Friday morning.

The Associated Press reported that air raid sirens were heard in Jerusalem as Iranian missiles hit targets across Israel, including in the holy city and Tel Aviv, with Iranian state media reporting that at least two Israeli jets and one drone were shot down in Iranian airspace.

There have been no immediate reports of Israeli casualties by Israeli media, while Iranian ambassador to the United Nations said that 78 people were killed and over 320 injured by Israel's attacks.

Both Israel and the United States have been intercepting Iranian missiles, with one US official informing the BBC that American "assets" were being deployed closer to Israel from the Mediterranean Sea.

In a televised address to his nation, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed to "inflict heavy blows” in retaliation against Israel's attack which targeted military leaders, scientists, professors and nuclear sites, adding that Israel “launched war.”

United States President Donald Trump threatened Iran on his social media platform Truth Social that if it does not make a deal with the US over its nuclear program by Sunday, the country would have to deal with "even more brutal" attacks.

This comes as a number of Middle Eastern countries have given mixed responses to the soaring escalations between Israel and Iran.

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry condemned Israel's attack on Iran, with even King Salman reportedly ordering the Hajj Ministry to extend visas of Iranian pilgrims still in the country.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan echoed similar sentiment, called Israel's attack "rogue behavior."

However, a number of drones were reportedly shot down by the Jordanian military, with the kingdom’s Foreign Ministry saying that it will not partake in any hostilities between the two nations.
