American actor Joaquin Phoenix denounced child starvation in Gaza during a podcast episode released Friday on “This Past Weekend,” hosted by comedian and media personality Theo Von.

“There’s no justification for f**king children starving to death in any conflict,” Phoenix said. “It’s just that simple, right?”

Israel’s 21-month war on Gaza has killed nearly 60,000 people, many of them women and children. This week, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that dozens of children are dying from starvation.

“You don’t have to understand geopolitics or anything like that,” Phoenix said.

The actor said he was “really moved” by Von’s public outcry over the suffering in Gaza, calling it “courageous.”

Phoenix also noted that some celebrities “may feel afraid” to speak out specifically about Gaza.
