India launched a series of aerial attacks on eastern regions of Pakistan in what they called Operation Sindoor on Tuesday, killing at least 33 civilians and injuring 46.

India claims that they were targeting “terrorist” infrastructure, while Pakistani officials said that they targeted several mosques and other civilian buildings.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised a response by his country’s military, calling the attack a “heinous act of aggression,” in a statement on X.

Pakistan managed to shoot down six Indian aircraft, including two fighter jets and a drone on Tuesday. They also managed to shoot down another 29 Israeli Harop drones deployed by India on Wednesday.

Pakistan somewhat retaliated, shelling parts of India-administered Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, killing at least 15 civilians and injuring 43, according to Indian media.

The hostilities between the two nuclear-armed rivals came after 26 people were shot dead on April 27 by Kashmiri militants belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group. 25 were Hindu Indian tourists, one Christian and a local Muslim.

A designated terror organization by India, LeT was founded in 1985 with the purpose of bringing about a complete Pakistani annexation of the disputed Kashmir region.

India quickly accused Pakistan of providing logistics for the attack, which Pakistan denied.
