India launched a missile attack on Pakistan, hitting multiple cities in the eastern regions of the country, including areas in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Indian officials said they targeted Islamist militant infrastructure. Pakistani officials said the attack targeted a mosque and other civilian infrastructure, killing 26 people and injuring at least 35 others.

Pakistan responded by shooting down at least six Indian aircraft, according to Pakistani officials.

Border clashes have also been reported along the Kashmir’s cease fire line.

The escalation between the two nuclear-armed countries comes after a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir killed 26 Indian tourists two weeks ago. India immediately accused Pakistan of being behind the attack, which Pakistan denied.
