The Israeli security cabinet said on Friday they plan to completely occupy Gaza City, Israeli media reported.
It was reportedly part of a proposal by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that included five points “for concluding the war,” according to the PM office.
Among the points were the military control of the Gaza Strip, a Hamas defeat and disarmament and the returning of all remaining hostages. Aid will also be distributed, the PM office added.
Moreover, Israel will seek the “establishment of an alternate civil administration that is neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority.”
According to Israeli media which cited a senior official, the civilians in Gaza city will be moved south. However, it is unclear what a full occupation of the territory will mean for the rest of the population.
The announcement comes merely 24 hours after Netanyahu said on Fox News that a complete takeover of Gaza would be established.
Israel has been facing mounting international pressure to alleviate the growing hunger crisis in Gaza, while the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are reportedly against the takeover.
