19-year-old United States Army soldier Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said was arrested on Tuesday after the F.B.I. learned of his plans to aid the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in a mass shooting attempt on a U.S. military base in Michigan.

Said was charged with “planning a deadly attack on a U.S. military base here at home for ISIS,” said Sue J. Bai, head of the Justice Department’s National Security Division.

Reports allege he was also planning to attack fellow Muslims.

May 13 was the scheduled day of the attack, and Said was arrested after he flew a drone over the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) facility in Detroit, Michigan.

Said previously spent two years in the Michigan Army National Guard until he was discharged in December.

He faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for each count if convicted, according to the U.S. Office of Public Affairs
