Israeli airstrikes killed at least 23 Palestinian civilians, including three children and their parents who had their tent bombed in Gaza City’s Sabra District Friday night and early Saturday morning.
The strikes came “without warning and without having done anything wrong,” said Omar Abu al-Kass, maternal grandfather of the three children.
International concerns have been raised over Israel’s blockade on Gaza and the refusal to allow vital supplies to be let in.
Charity kitchens are now the only source of food left in Gaza, according to an Al Jazeera report, with many shutting down in recent days due to the scarcity of food left.
These kitchens previously each fed around 100 people and are now having to feed up to 2,000, according to the report.
The Israeli blockade is meant to pressure Hamas to release the hostages, according to a report by the Associated Press.
Human rights groups like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have condemned the strategy and called on Israel to allow aid inside Gaza.
However, the strategy may be failing, as US soldier Edan Alexander, the last living American hostage in Gaza, was released Monday in a deal struck by the Palestinian militant group Hamas and the Trump administration.
