Seringe Khabane "Khaby" Lame, a Muslim TikTok superstar, was detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last week at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was later allowed to leave the US after being granted voluntary departure on June 6.

Voluntary departure permits a person to exit the country at their own expense without a formal removal order, potentially preserving their ability to return legally in the future.

An ICE spokesperson told NPR on Tuesday that Lame, 25, legally entered the US on April 30 but remained beyond the date allowed by his visa. When NPR inquired about the specific visa type, ICE responded: “The information provided in the statement is all we have available.”

Lame’s detainment comes amid President Trump’s mass deportation campaign, during which the average number of people held by ICE has increased by 25% since he took office.
