Six people were killed and 12 wounded Monday in a shooting at a crowded bus stop in East Jerusalem, Israeli officials said.
Two gunmen from the West Bank opened fire at Ramot Junction around 10 a.m., Israeli media reported. After shooting people waiting to enter a bus and shattering the vehicle’s multiple windows, they were shot dead by an Israeli soldier.
Israeli media reported that six of the 12 wounded remain in serious condition.
Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic security agency, identified the attackers as Mohammad Taha, 21, and Muthanna Amro, 20. Both were from West Bank villages and had no prior arrest records.
Israeli police later arrested another suspect allegedly linked to the attack, though authorities have not released the person’s identity, according to the Associated Press.
Hamas praised the shooting in a statement, calling it a “natural” response to Israel’s occupation, the AP reported.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the scene hours later and vowed to intensify raids in the West Bank.
“We have already eliminated nests of terror in refugee camps,” he said. “We evacuated the population and flattened the infrastructure. My instruction is to do the same elsewhere.”
Israel has carried out near-daily raids in the West Bank since late 2023. Nearly 1,000 Palestinians have been killed, though Hamas does not control the territory.
