Six Kashmiri rebels and two Indian soldiers were killed in two operations conducted by Kashmiri police, according to Kashmir police’s Inspector General Vidhi Kumar Birdi.
“We have retrieved the bodies of two terrorists from Modergram, and four others from Frisal Chinnigam,” Birdi said.
These gunfights follow a long history of dispute in the Muslim-majority region has been fought over between Pakistan and India since 1947, resulting in multiple wars being fought over it. Armed rebellion against Indian rule broke out in the late 1980s and tens of thousands have been killed.
