Multiple mosques across Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir have been destroyed by India’s missile attack on Tuesday into the Punjab region and surrounding areas known as Operation Sindoor. 

Local media said that a mosque in the Pakistani city of Bahawalpur was destroyed, including mosques in the Kashmiri cities of Kotli, Shawai and Muzaffarabad.

Images from the sites show either partially or completely destroyed structures.

Indian officials claim the mosques were housing terrorists of militant groups Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Pakistan and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Kashmir. 

Pakistani officials refuted these claims, saying that the attack killed 31 civilians, including seven children. 

However, the BBC reported that JeM chief Masood Azhar confirmed that 10 of his immediate family members and relatives were killed in the Subhan Allah Mosque strike, including his brother Abdul Rauf Azhar, one of JeM’s top leaders.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised military retaliation while addressing the Pakistani parliament on Wednesday, saying that “Innocent children and women are among those martyred in India's cowardly attacks,” and “that every drop of the blood of these martyrs will be accounted for.”

Operation Sindoor also consisted of subsequent drone attacks. Pakistan’s military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Choudry said in a press conference on Thursday that his country’s armed forces destroyed at least 29 Israeli-made Harop drones deployed by India. 

According to Pakistani media, eyewitness accounts said that multiple drones attacked the Subhan Mosque.

Choudry added that three people were killed from these drones, and that the “Pakistan armed forces remain fully vigilant to any type of threat.”
