A variety of skin diseases are spreading among Palestinians in Gaza, with over 150,000 people, many of whom hildren, contracting either scabies, lice, chickenpox, rashes, or impetigo.
The large number of skin cases come as Gaza’s healthcare system is in shambles, and running water for basic hygiene is nonexistent. Palestinians have been forced to sleep outside buildings, further increasing the risk of overall disease.
“We sleep on the ground, on sand where worms come out underneath us,” said Elwan, a resident of Dier el-Balah, Gaza, who has been living on the beach with her family.
