Ann recently opened up a new taekwondo school in Minnesota, where he spent most of his teenage years [Photo courtesy of CBS News]

Alasan Ann is one of 16 Africans to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, and will compete in the taekwondo category. 

Just four months before the Olympic qualifiers, Ann was shot in his right leg in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and had to undergo surgery. The surgery was a success, and Ann continued training for the qualifier. 

His current regimen consists of two training sessions per day, five days a week, as he prepares for the big stage.
