Multiple attacks by Israeli forces have killed at least 115 Palestinians across Gaza on Thursday, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Most of the casualties are women and children, according to an Al Jazeera report.

The attacks, composed of multiple raids and airstrikes on hospitals and a refugee camp in northern Gaza, occurred on the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, a day which marks the mass expulsion of Palestinians upon the creation of the state of Israel.

Known as the “catastrophe” in Arabic, the Nakba on May 15, 1948 witnessed 750,000 Palestinians forced to leave their homes by Israeli militias which later became the Israeli Defense Forces.

The Israeli airstrikes on Thursday were mostly focused on civilian infrastructure in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis.

“Israeli warplanes directly targeted nine houses without any warning,” Al Jazeera correspondent Tareq Abu Azzoum said. “The Israeli military targeted civilians while they were asleep.”

The strikes, which eliminated “entire families” according to Azzoum, also targeted a journalist.

Hasan Samour, a correspondent working for the Qatar-based Al Araby TV was among the dead in Khan Younis, according to a statement from the network on X. 11 members of his family were killed alongside him, the statement read.

Additional strikes as well as multiple raids also occurred on Wednesday and Thursday at the Al Awda, Indonesian, and European Hospitals across multiple cities in the enclave.

The damages sustained to the medical facilities force Gaza’s Health Ministry to “shut down most departments,” which are already struggling with few medical supplies, Dr. Marwan al-Hams, director general of Field Hospitals in Gaza, said to the Associated Press.

The IDF has yet to make a public statement on Thursday’s attacks, which come as Gaza faces increased risks of famine since March 2.
