Last Wednesday, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community banned the Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH) along with its affiliates due to the center’s ties to what German officials see as extremism and connection to the Iranian government.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry reports the act as “an example of Islamophobia,” reporting it as a violation of freedom of expression and promotion of violence and extremism.
53 other premises of IZH were searched as well in multiple states of Germany, a country home to 5.5 million Muslims.
