Columbia University has indefinitely ousted three deans after exchanging texts the university deemed “disturbingly touched on ancient antisemitic tropes” and downplayed Jewish students’ concern about discrimination.
“Whether intended as such or not,” wrote Columbia president, Minouche Shafik on Monday, these sentiments are unacceptable and deeply upsetting, conveying a lack of seriousness about the concerns and the experiences of members of our Jewish community that is antithetical to our university’s values and the standards we must uphold in our community.”
The three deans have not been fired, but it’s unclear when they will return to their positions, reported The New York Times.
