United States President Donald Trump has fired many pro-Israel officials and traditional Republican hawks from the White House National Security Council (NSC) over the last month, the Middle East Eye reported on Wednesday. Many of these officials angered the “America first” side of the Trump administration.

One notable firing was Eric Trager, Middle East advisor at the NSC and was with Trump during the entire Middle East trip last month.

Another significant dismissal was Merav Ceren, the NSC director for Israel and Iran, who worked at the Israeli Ministry of Defense.

This firing trend began with National Security Agency Chief Timothy Haugh in April, when Trump told reporters "we're always going to let go of people – people we don't like or people that take advantage of, or people that may have loyalties to someone else,” according to the BBC.

However, Trump’s move to fire pro-Israel officials specifically comes after he lifted US sanctions on Syria in May and brokered a ceasefire with the Yemeni Houthi militant group in May

Trump also laid off his former national security advisor Mike Waltz last month for reportedly discussing an Iran strike with Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to the Washington Post. Trump reportedly cut ties with Netanyahu as a result, showing some sort of shift in Trump’s Middle East policy. Trager and Ceren were also part of Waltz’s team.

Each official who was fired has been very critical of compromising with Iran on a nuclear deal according to the BBC, which Trump withdrew from in his first term but reopened talks of a nuclear deal proposal over the past several weeks.

These fired officials have also supported Israeli attacks on Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.

Trump told Netanyahu in a call last Thursday that he "doesn't want anything to impede" a diplomatic solution with Iran regarding a nuclear deal, according to Axios.
